Sodexo Earns ISO/IEC 20000 Certification for Information Technology Service Management

GAITHERSBURG, Md., March 23, 2009 — Sodexo has earned distinction from the IT Service Management Forum (itSMF) as the only foodservice and facilities management company in North America to receive International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 20000 certification, the first worldwide standard specifically aimed at information technology service management. The standard benchmarks, promotes and recognizes an integrated set of management processes for the effective delivery of IT services to internal and external customers.
The certification, awarded to the Sodexo North American Data Center Operations on January 30, has been granted to an exclusive group of U.S. organizations since it was established by itSMF in 2005.
“Some industries, such as manufacturing, have historically benefitted from formal quality benchmarks like ISO,” said Tony Tocco, senior vice president and chief information office for Sodexo North American Information Technology. “It’s time for IT to do the same. Innovative thinking and a culture change helped us apply the same quality standards to the service-oriented approach we use to deliver IT functions.”
ISO/IEC 20000 provides a recognized and tested management system that allows an IT service organization to plan, manage, deliver, monitor, report, review and improve its services. “Achieving this level of excellence demonstrates that our IT processes are world class, built on a foundation that promotes continuous improvement,” said Tocco. “Most important, it translates into superior, consistent access to IT services for our clients, allowing them to focus on meeting their customers’ needs.”
Sodexo IS&T staff collaborated with auditors from Underwriter Labs to garner the ISO/IEC 20000 certification. “Sodexo is the first food service and facilities management company to achieve ISO 20000 certification, demonstrating its commitment to delivering the highest quality service to customers,” said Ganesh Rao, president and CEO at UL DQS Inc. “Establishing and maintaining an effective management system for IT service management will enable Sodexo to maintain industry leadership by continually improving its services.”
