Metrics, mentoring, communications distinguish Sodexo among top companies
GAITHERSBURG, Md., March 23, 2009 — Sodexo, a leading integrated food and facilities management services company, was listed as number three on the 2009 DiversityInc Top 10 Companies for Recruiting and Retention list, achieving the honor from among more than 400 companies.
In choosing the rankings, DiversityInc considered race/ethnicity/gender/age-demographics questions surrounding the work force, new hires, management by levels, promotions and retention. DiversityInc includes questions on work/life benefits and recruitment strategies, including those aimed at lesbian/gay/bisexual/ transgender (LGBT) people and people with disabilities.
Key factors in Sodexo's success were its diversity-training and employee-engagement metrics, its trendsetting mentoring programs, its full complement of progressive work/life programs, and its external communications and partnerships that brand it as a diversity leader.
A total of 401 companies, an increase of 14 percent from last year, vied for the honors from DiversityInc this year, underscoring the increasing emphasis on diversity management among progressive companies. In 2008, Sodexo again placed third in recruiting and retention out of 352 companies competing.
“Sodexo seeks and works to keep the best employees from every walk of life for every position,” said Peri Bridger, senior vice president, Human Resources, for Sodexo, Inc. “We encourage mentoring for all employees. We use social media to recruit and engage potential candidates. And we demonstrate our commitment to the strength of our workforce by continuing employee training and development even during this difficult economy.”
