New online youth action center goes live on first anniversary of No Kid Hungry® Campaign
GAITHERSBURG, Md., November 9, 2011 - The Sodexo Foundation and Share Our Strength® today launched NoKidHungry2.org, an online youth action center that will engage students across the U.S. in the fight against childhood hunger and poverty.
This new site, (launched on the one year anniversary of Share Our Strength's No Kid Hungry® Campaign) encourages young people to join the fight against childhood hunger by becoming passionate anti-hunger advocates. It provides hands-on tools that allow students to learn about hunger while also equipping them with resources needed to have a direct impact in their communities.
"There are more than 16 million children in the U.S. today struggling with hunger. The good news is that many of their peers are passionate about joining the anti-hunger movement," said Amy Crowell, director of youth engagement, Share Our Strength. "This site will be a tool that helps connect them to the many fun, proactive ways they can focus that enthusiasm to end childhood hunger in their own communities."
Share Our Strength's No Kid Hungry Campaign is dedicated to ending childhood hunger by 2015 by providing children with the nutritious food they need where they live, learn and play. NoKidHungry2.org is a collaborative effort with the Sodexo Foundation, which has been a leader in the fight against childhood hunger for more than 15 years.
The new anti-hunger action center targets two levels of youth – those under the age of 13 and the 13 and above set. Both sections of the site, Kids Kick Hunger and Leaders Tackle Hunger respectively, offer age-appropriate ideas and resources to engage youth in the national fight against hunger. The new platform also seamlessly interfaces with popular social media tools, further connecting youth in organizing volunteer efforts at the local level.
NoKidHungry2.org will also serve as a valuable information source to youth, highlighting opportunities like the Stephen J. Brady STOP Hunger Scholarship program, which is now accepting applications through December 5th.
"NoKidHungry2.org is a wellspring from which young hunger champions will soon pour," said Robert A. Stern, president of the Sodexo Foundation. "It will be exciting to witness as their steady stream of ideas turn into actions that effectively help wash hunger out of existence by 2015."
