Sodexo’s Jazzmans Brew & Bakery Focuses on the Customer Experience

To enhance the customer experience at 170 U.S. locations, Jazzmans, the company’s signature coffee-lovers’ destination, is now Jazzmans Brew & Bakery. Located primarily on university campuses, Binghamton University in Binghamton, NY, is the first Sodexo-served location to introduce the elevated concept.
When asked to provide feedback about the new Jazzmans Brew & Bakery, Binghamton students pointed out that the campus community enjoys having its own unique coffee shop with a local atmosphere that is designed for comfort and baristas who know their customers. They find that Jazzmans is a great place to enjoy a favorite beverage and a snack or meal while organizing their thoughts for the day ahead or relaxing between classes.
Redefining Great Coffee with Cold Brew and New Roasts
“Our research on consumer insights tells us that 54% of consumers expect more than traditional drip coffee, they want espresso based specialty beverages,” said Laura Thompson, Director, Brand Management. “Our customers choose specialty beverages based on their mood – for example, in the morning it’s about energy and getting on with your day so a drip coffee is perfect, but in the afternoon they may want a treat which an espresso-based specialty beverage can fulfill. Or they are looking to take a break – and want that special beverage to take a few moments and relax or connect with friends.”
Thompson further explained, “Our new cold-pressed coffee, aka Cold Brew, is a favorite, especially now that summer is here. It’s created using a process in which coarse-ground beans are soaked in cool water for 12 hours or more, resulting in a smooth, deeply flavorful brew with lower acidity. Binghamton University is the first Sodexo client to use a tap system to dispense cold brew coffee, embracing a new industry trend that is currently outselling iced coffee on campus.”
Taking the cue from their customers, the Jazzmans team worked with its coffee roaster to elevate its brewed coffee roast profiles in response to requests for enhanced roasts with distinct personalities. Jazzmans now offers Just Right Light, Happy Medium and Deep Thought Dark roasts to satisfy every preference, from slightly sweet with overtones of honey and caramel to a smooth, almost winey blend with a nutty top note to a rich, full bodied brew with dark chocolate undertones. With coffee blends like this, Jazzmans promises to uplift the tempo of its consumers’ day. Specialty drinks include classics such as hot, iced or frozen mochas and lattes as well as seasonal creations, satisfying a wide range of tastes and consumer demands at targeted times of the year. All Jazzmans coffees are Rainforest Alliance Certified.
Expanded menu features on-site baking
Binghamton’s students and staff love the new enhanced coffee roasts and cold-pressed coffee which are complemented by the expanded Jazzmans’ menu. Their iconic blueberry muffins and chocolate chip cookies are baked on site, as are the new items for breakfast and lunch including sweet and savory pockets, biscuits and reduced fat options as well as the new Jazzmans’ espresso cookie.
