Sodexo Challenges Students to Create a Better Breakfast

GAITHERSBURG, Md., April 25, 2016 – Sodexo, the world leader in Quality of Life Services, believes that starting the day with breakfast is crucial to student well-being and performance. But every parent knows that finding nutritious options that kids will actually eat can be hard—so Sodexo consults with next-gen culinary experts.

For the 2016 Sodexo Future Chefs: Healthy Breakfast Challenge, elementary school students from Sodexo-served school districts across the United States created breakfast options that kids (and even adults) can enjoy. Now in its sixth year, the Sodexo Future Chefs program encourages better eating by actively involving students in good nutrition.

Out of nearly 2,500 entries from students, these five Future Chefs Healthy Breakfast Challenge national finalists are leading the way in creating fun, healthy, tasty meals:

  • Madysun Christensen, Granite School District in Salt Lake City, UT; Boil-in-a-Bag Omelet
  • Ella Dettloff, Old Bridge Township Public Schools in Old Bridge, NJ; Sweet Potato Pancakes with Grilled Pineapple
  • Rivka Guzman, Mukilteo School District in Mukilteo, WA; Coconut Apricot Energy Balls
  • Qui-Raun Pressley, Georgetown Independent School District in Georgetown, TX; Bobcat Breakfast Tart
  • Isabelle Sarkody, Woodhaven-Brownstown School District in Woodhaven, MI, Egg-Cellent Breakfast Cupcakes with Yake Yogurt Bites & Gator Green Smoothie

These five finalists made videos of their recipes and you can view those videos and vote for your favorite at SodexoUSA.com.

Students participating in the program represent 1,300 Sodexo-served elementary schools in 233 school districts and 28 states. A panel of judges reviewed the recipes and evaluated them based on the originality, presentation, ease of preparation, kid-friendliness and healthiness. Programs like Future Chefs are part of Sodexo’s commitment to health, well-being and support for the school districts and communities it serves.
