For Third Consecutive Year, Sodexo Receives Perfect Score on Corporate Equality Index
September 14, 2009
Company recognized as a "Best Place to Work" for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Equality
GAITHERSBURG, Md., September 14, 2009 – Sodexo, a world leader in foodservice and facilities management is pleased to announce a 100-percent rating in the 2010 edition of the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index. This year’s Index graded 590 businesses on a scale of 0-100 percent based on each company’s dedication to creating an inclusive workplace supportive of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) employees.
This is the third year Sodexo has achieved a perfect Corporate Equality Index Score. The company’s non-discrimination policy, diversity training, employer-provided domestic partner health insurance, support for LGBT events/organizations, and People Respecting Individuality, Diversity and Equality (PRIDE) employee network group helped earn the honor.
“As the Chair of PRIDE and an openly gay person in the workplace, I am very proud that Sodexo has maintained our 100 percent rating,” said Director of Information Systems and Technology Joe Hoffman. “This is a key indicator of our company’s continued commitment to fairness and equality in the workplace for the LGBT community and its dedication to creating an environment where employees can bring their whole selves to work each day.”
A growing number of companies join Sodexo with perfect scores when it comes to protecting employees from workplace discrimination based on sexual orientation. Despite the pressures of a challenging economy, the number of businesses ranking 100 percent rose by 20 percent. Leaders of the Human Rights Campaign say these 305 companies, who employ a total of more than 9.3 million full time workers, should set an example for all U.S. employers.
The release of the Corporate Equality Index kicks off a two-week conversation focused on workplace equality called “Policy to Practice”. The goal is to provide information regarding policies and benefits among some of the country’s largest employers and explore how these policies are implemented. The Human Rights Campaign Foundation is the educational arm of America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality.
